Sleeve insignia night fighter command ship NJL Togo
Sleeve insignia night fighter command ship NJL Togo.
Dimensions 105 x 70mm.
Extremely rare !!
The coat of arms of the Togo was selected among many others by the crew in a competition in 1943. It represents a combination between Naval and Night Hunt symbol.
The task of this Togo 82 was to lead the night fighters to the enemy ships at night in order to then sink them.
Nachtkampfleitschiff was the German Navy's name for an armed and specially equipped ship that was used for early detection and warning of Allied air raids and for guiding night fighters from the German Luftwaffe.
The only ship designated as a night fighter leader and put into service as such was the Togo, which was used in the Baltic Sea to guide and support the night fighter squadrons against attacks by enemy bombers. The ship was a former general cargo ship that was first used by the Navy as a mine ship (ship 14), then as an auxiliary cruiser under the name Coronel and was converted into a night fighter leader in 1943. In addition to anti-aircraft and searchlight batteries, the Togo was equipped with special locating and fire control devices.
After the war, Togo went through various changes of ownership, name and function before finally being wrecked off the Mexican coast in 1984.
