Autograph – Otto Geßler (1875–1955) – Thank-you card with autograph signature, 1927. Minister of the Reichswehr.
Double-leaf card with a mourning border (approx. 18.5 x 15 cm, folded), dated "Berlin, March 1927." Printed text expressing thanks "for the sympathy shown to us upon the death of our dear son Karl," with a handwritten signature in black ink (slightly faded) beneath. Otto Geßler served as Mayor of Regensburg from 1910 to 1914 and as Lord Mayor of Nuremberg from 1914 to 1919. In October [1919], as a member of the DDP, he became Minister of Reconstruction and shortly thereafter Minister of the Reichswehr; he was forced to resign in 1928 due to financial irregularities linked to the secret rearmament of the Reichswehr. Following the Nazi seizure of power, he withdrew from politics and established contact with the resistance movement. After the assassination attempt on Hitler in July 1944, he was arrested and interned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp until February 1945.
