An exceptional and highly authentic set from the post-war Soviet era: an ASzT 10x45 scissor telescope (or trench periscope) dating from 1956, complete with objective covers, an original wooden tripod, and a wooden transport case with a carrying strap.
This distinctive observation telescope is known by various names, including "Donkey Ear" (*Eselsohr*), "trench telescope," or "scissor telescope." Its design was developed for observation from protected positions and was used, among other things, for monitoring border areas.
The telescope offers 10x magnification with an objective lens diameter of 45 mm. By releasing the central locking mechanism, the objective arms can be swiveled into a horizontal position, thereby widening the field of view.
The set bears the designation "ASzT," and the transport case is stamped "ASZT." Based on the year included in the stamp, the set can be dated to 1956.
Condition
Overall, the telescope is in good, original condition. The optical elements are free of fungus and clouding, and the lenses are undamaged. There is a black spot in the right objective lens; it is clearly visible in the photos and may be noticeable during use.
The right objective features a reticle scale for range estimation. Additionally, the telescope includes a mount for reticle illumination; a corresponding light unit can be attached at the top.
The wooden transport case also contains two lens extensions—useful in conditions such as direct sunlight or rain—as well as other original accessories, such as spare rubber parts and a cleaning brush. Equipment
