GDR armband for the People's Police (Volkspolizei)
Cotton, approximately 13 cm wide
These armbands, featuring the GDR national coat of arms, were worn by civilians who volunteered to assist the GDR border troops in border security. In the 1980s, they served approximately six to eight hours a month within the restricted area and at the entrances. They were deployed independently, together with border guards, or with the People's Police and their volunteers.
