ID card from 1943 - Karl Schmidt Werk GmbH Neckarsulm - Production of Kettenkrad + parts for submarines etc.
In 1938, the NSU's workforce was 3,500 employees and Neckarsulm's population was just under 8,600 people (1939 census), and production amounted to around 136,000 bicycles and 63,000 motorcycles. Automobile production had ceased in 1931 after a failed expansion in the 1920s. One of the NSU's best-known products during the Second World War was the Kettenkrad type HK 101 (Wehrmacht designation Sd.Kfz. 2), which was used by the Wehrmacht and also by the Luftwaffe for numerous tasks, mostly as a tractor for light guns and aircraft. 7,500 examples were built in Neckarsulm. In addition, the NSU supplied the Wehrmacht with parts for submarines, remote-controlled explosive carriers, grenades, detonators and aircraft units.
