Anton Wingen Othello manufactured the famous HJ knives at the time.

The company was founded in 1888 as a scissors factory. Between 1901 and 1904, new production facilities were built on Gasstrasse in Solingen. In 1904, its own drop forge was integrated. During the First World War, the company supplied armaments. In 1924, a new factory building was built, which is now unused and in a deplorable condition. The company also supplied armaments during the Second World War. The company was dissolved in 1997. The remaining stocks of finished and semi-finished products were acquired by a small cutlery manufacturer from Solingen, along with the OTHELLO trademark, while machinery and tools were exported to Yugoslavia.
