Original French M1874 Gras Bayonet,
converted into a Chilean police weapon with scabbard
This Chilean police weapon was originally developed from the bayonet of the French Fusil Model 1874 "Gras." It featured a more modern, straight design with a reinforced blade spine, offering superior penetration against all types of armor. Bayonets were often modified later, including this example.
The grip bears the coat of arms of the REPUBLICA DE CHILE right next to the crossguard, indicating its affiliation with the Chilean police, into which this type of bayonet was converted. The original scabbard was also modified, shortened to the correct length, and fitted with a brass chape and a frog stud.
A good example of how early bayonets were reused. Blade length approximately 29 cm, overall length approximately 44 cm.
