Autograph – Sven Hedin (1865–1952) – handwritten greeting card and addressed envelope to a female collector, 1937
Autograph – Sven Hedin (1865–1952) – handwritten greeting card and addressed envelope to a female collector, 1937.
The card (approx. 14.5 x 9.2 cm) bears an inscription in black ink: "With kind regards, Sven Hedin." It is accompanied by a postally used and slit envelope, postmarked "Stockholm, Jan. 13, 1937." Sven Hedin—a Swedish geographer, photographer, topographer, explorer, and travel writer—participated in three expeditions to Central Asia between 1894 and 1908 and was raised to the nobility in 1902. From 1927 to 1935, he led a fourth expedition to Mongolia, the Gobi Desert, and Xinjiang, where he met Chiang Kai-shek. He was also received on several occasions by Adolf Hitler, whom Hedin—as late as 1945—described as "one of the greatest human beings that world history has ever known."
