The handle and crossguard are fire-gilt. The pommel is decorated with the GDR state coat of arms.

Blued iron scabbard with gold-plated fittings on two suspension rings. The blade is engraved with "Ministry for State Security." The upper fitting bears the GDR state coat of arms and an oak branch in relief.
