Original Danish Saber - Saber of the Christian's Guard (Flensburg) 1799
Historical saber of the Christian's Guard - Foot Guard, also called the "Green Guard" because of its uniform color.
On July 31, 1799, the guard was established by the citizens of Flensburg.
It received permission to call itself the Royal Guard in 1847.
Description:
Single-edged blade with a broad hollow grind. Engravings: Reverse side - "Flensburg July 31, 1799," obverse side - "Christian's Guard." Underside of the grip - "N-16." Brass hilt with leather-covered grip, triple brass wire wrapping missing. Brass hilt with leather scabbard with brass fittings.
Note on condition: The saber is missing a small screw on the brass part of the leather scabbard; the hilt shows slight damage to the handle. Otherwise, the saber is in good condition.
The lettering on the blade appears to have a gold background. The top of the blade bears the forge mark in the form of a fleur-de-lis ornament. Remains of the leather are present.
