Bavaria - Heavy lion head sabre of a noble cavalry officer around 1870.
Beautifully preserved, fullered single-edged blade with a colored etched bandeau on both sides of the royal cipher "L" under a crown (King Ludwig II). Ricassola with manufacturer's logo, coat of arms under a crown. Spine of the blade marked "Chr. Block königl. Hofgürtler in München". Richly profiled and decorated bow hilt with fish skin grip and wire winding, the lion's head pommel with inset colored eyes, cross guard ending in a lion's head, obverse cross guard with raised lion's face, reverse cross guard with engraved nobility monogram ("K" under a crown). Sword for cavalry officers. Burnished iron scabbard with brass carrying rings, with creases in the lower area.
Length 104cm --- blade 83 cm --- scabbard 89 cm --- blade width 29 mm.
