Bayonet ricasso of a US Model 1917 bayonet (also M1917),
manufactured by Remington Arms Co. during World War I.
Ordnance/Branding Mark: Above the "U.S." is the stylized US order bomb with an eagle's head acceptance stamp and a serial number (recognizable here as "28"). The bayonet was originally based on the British Pattern 1913/Pattern 1907 design (for the Enfield rifle) but was produced in large numbers by Remington for US troops during World War I.
U.S. Acceptance Stamp: The inscription "U.S." signifies its adoption by the United States Armed Forces.
