After the Nazis seized power in Germany in 1933, the SS was divided into two main branches: the Waffen-SS, the military unit often referred to as the "Black Order," and the Allgemeine-SS, which covered the political, ideological, and police aspects of the organization and was led by Heinrich Himmler.
